Courtyard retail at the Bluecoat
Commercial space feasibility study.
RIBA Work Stages 0-1
The Bluecoat is an 18th Century Grade I Listed arts venue in city centre Liverpool. Following a major refurbishment, the building re-opened in 2008 offering galleries, performance spaces, studios and retail spaces for creative businesses.
The front courtyard is a fine urban set-piece at the termination of Church Alley, and it is the focus for the building's retail spaces. The Bluecoat were keen to improve the active uses offered in the courtyard, and by consolidating their administrative space, released a potential area for commercial/creative use.
MgMaStudio/ prepared feasibility studies showing how sensitive alterations could create two further commercial units within the existing office/resource area, accessed from the front courtyard.
